February 16, 10 by Mark75Italy: Country for Old Men. At least, looking at income trends.
February 11, 10 by Mark75An interesting chart from a Bank of Italy research shows that “older” people witnessed a significant increase of their income in 2006-2008, while “younger” ones suffered a contraction in the same period. And with “younger” people we are talking about under 55 of age. This appear to confirm what even some member of the Government was admitting: in the last 10-20 years, Italy maybe “gave too much” to older people, ad “gave too few” to younger people.

January 27, 10 by Mark75Chart: bank loans in Italy
January 14, 10 by Mark75Here’s an interesting chart from Bank of Italy, that shows bank loans 12-months variation %. The chart shows that loans basically increased throughout the crisis (except loans to enterprises, a couple of months in 2009): but this does not contradict credit difficulties that many enterprises and households complain about. In fact, a full view on the issue should keep in account also demand: and it is very likely that loans demand increased more than loans offer.

Italian households increase savings in 2009
December 21, 09 by Mark75According to a research of Italian bank BNK, Italian households are increasing savings in 2009. 47% of them was able to save some money in 2009 (first three quarters), compared to 31% in 2008 (that was a record low).
But this increase apperas to be due to negative outlook on the strenght of the recovery (so families are trying to “be ready” in case of trouble), more than to the improvement in economic conditions.

Bank of Italy: Italian households wealth decreased in 2008 (what a surprise…)
December 17, 09 by Mark75Bank of Italy published households wealth (i.e. retained assets) data, that show a decrease in 2008 of assets owned by Italian households. Clearly this is no surprise: if we look in detail, it’s evident that this decrease is mostly caused by stock prices decline, that is not news.
It is interesting that, if we leave aside stocks (top slice in the chart), Italian houesholds wealth appears to hold on quite well.
